This role involves providing legal support in office risk management policies and processes and regulatory compliance with a particular focus on conflicts of interest and engagement management.


The Risk Management Lawyer will join an established and well regarded global Legal Risk Management team. He/she will work very closely with the Regional Head of Risk Management in Asia and other members of the Legal Risk Management teams and Risk Management Services teams  in Asia, the US and Europe. 


Provide day to day assistance to the Legal Risk Management team in relation to the analysis and management conflicts of interest and engagement management including:

  • Analysing, investigating and resolving domestic and cross border conflicts and confidentiality issues
  • Handling and responding to queries from lawyers/support staff and members of the team
  • Assisting in obtaining consents and waivers from clients
  • Implementing and managing information barriers
  • Reviewing conflicts issues in relation to lateral hires
  • Assisting with engagement letters, legal aspects of pitch documents and other client relationship documents including standard outside counsel terms or confidentiality agreements required by clients
  • Assisting with the delivery of risk management training programmes for lawyers, support staff and the compliance teams
  • Developing and maintaining manuals, standard forms and other documentation for the risk management and compliance function in Asia
  • Generally providing day-to-day advice on professional conduct and regulatory issues and other projects as may be required by the Firm from time to time

Qualifications / Person Specification

  • Strong academic background
  • Qualified lawyer  or compliance professional
  • Prior experience within professional responsibility, ethics or compliance issues would be an advantage but by no means essential
  • Strong analytical skills; able to analyse facts and scenarios quickly and thoroughly
  • Able to proactively solve problems in a methodical, practical way
  • Effective communicator and able to disseminate complex topics clearly, with credibility and confidence
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Able to prioritise a varied workload and to work to tight deadlines
  • Practical and pragmatic approach
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a local and global team
  • Responsive and able to work under pressure
  • An ability to handle sensitive matters confidentially and with discretion
  • Good command of written and spoken English. Chinese (including Putonghua) preferred but not essential
  • Good IT skills
  • Commitment to a career within legal risk and compliance
